Animal Care and Assistance Fund

4514 Plummer Street Pittsburgh PA 15201

Animal Care & Assistance Fund (ACAF) provides an alternative to euthanasia or a life of suffering. We recognize the dynamic bond between owners & their companion pets — we offer hope when there is nowhere else to turn. We are saving pets’ lives in the Pittsburgh area by offering pet owners in financial crisis an alternative when their animal has a treatable, yet life-threatening condition.

ACAF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to promoting the health interests & welfare of animals. It is the benevolent extension of the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (PVSEC), the largest vet hospital in Western Pa. With over 30 Veterinarians & 180 staff, PVSEC affords ACAF the professional personnel to fulfill its mission of being an emergency assistance fund.

It is devastating to an owner when finances cause an inability to provide emergency veterinary care…  there is an overwhelming feeling of guilt, despair & anger. Unfortunately, this heartbreak is all too familiar to older adults, the disabled, or others who are experiencing financial hardship.

To increase the quality of life for our furry companions, ACAF is starting several ‘Special Funds‘:

A Blood Bank for Animals, Pets Giving Pets the Gift of Life. We will only accept blood from volunteer Blood Donor Heroes… we believe that the quality of life for one animal should not be enhanced at the expense of another.

The K-9 Unit Fund is to honor retired ‘work’ dogs whose medical care is no longer provided. The officers who adopt their dog are now financially responsible… we are honoring these exceptional dogs for their distinguished service.

The Cancer Care Fund & Oral Care Fund are legacy endowments to financially assist pets requiring these specialized medical services. Soon, PVSEC will be the only cancer center within 200 miles, & ACAF is ready to help owners in need.

Companion pets are vital members of many Pittsburgh  families… we are restoring the quality of life for many of them.
