Pittsburgh Mercy's Operation Safety Net has been serving people experiencing homelessness for over thirty years. Founded in 1992, Operation Safety Net (OSN) is recognized as one of the nation's first targeted, full-time street medicine programs in the country and a model for street medicine programs around the world. OSN is a vital component of Pittsburgh Mercy's continuum of care to address the complex needs of people experiencing homelessness. This care includes:
-street medicine, psychiatry, and outreach
-low-barrier emergency shelter
-physical and behavioral health care
-substance use disorders treatment
-permanent and supportive housing programs
-engagement center
-individual case management
We depend on your support to fill the gaps in funding so that we can continue to provide these critical services.
Too many of our neighbors and friends are experiencing homelessness. On #ONEDAY, give to Pittsburgh Mercy and help those in need access affordable housing, employment services, health and wellness care, and supportive services.
"We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the OSN team," says John*, who, along with his partner, has suffered from substance use disorder for years. "They check in with us. They listen. It feels good to know they care."
Beth* first met the OSN team while living in an encampment and suffering from xylazine wounds caused by contaminated opioids. Now, OSN is supporting her and her partner with medication-assisted treatment and primary health care services. "They are amazing. I could never have gone 4-months sober without their support."
