Support the Fleet That Feeds Pittsburgh

Every day, our fleet of rescue vehicles and more than 24,000 Food Rescue Hero volunteers work together to recover fresh, nutritious food and deliver it directly to community organizations serving neighbors facing food insecurity. Every rescue keeps good food out of landfills, nourishes people, and reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Together, we've rescued more than 35 million pounds of food, provided the equivalent of 29 million meals, and prevented more than 71 million pounds of CO₂ emissions.

Our free Food Rescue Hero app makes it easy for anyone to become part of the solution. From food pickup to delivery, the app guides volunteers every step of the way, turning everyday people into everyday heroes.

While thousands of volunteer drivers power our mission, some food donations require larger vehicles, specialized equipment, and dedicated staff. That's where our Fleet Team comes in. With four rescue vehicles and a six-person team operating five days a week, the Fleet Team recovers and redistributes large-scale donations that volunteer drivers often cannot transport. Although small in size, this team is responsible for rescuing 44% of all food recovered each year, making it a vital part of our ability to fight hunger and food waste at scale.
