Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg

Catholic Charities was founded in 1954 as the social service arm of the Diocese of Greensburg serving the human needs of individuals and families, regardless of age, race, or religious background. Dedicated to empowering individuals and families to help themselves, Catholic Charities has been providing counseling services since its inception, growing to provide a range of psychotherapeutic services to individuals and families by a licensed staff of professional therapists. These services address abuse, addictive behaviors, anxiety, depression, chronic health conditions, grief, loss, and isolation. We accept all major insurance plans, and those that have little or no insurance by offering self-pay services based upon a person’s income and sliding fee scale, making mental health services accessible for all. 

Catholic Charities continues to provide an Anger Management Group, offering individuals practical tools to improve emotional regulation, communication, and conflict resolution skills. In addition, our school-based counseling program supports students through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Groups, which focus on emotional wellness, resilience, and healthy coping strategies. These services are available not only within Catholic schools but also through partnerships with other faith-based schools throughout the community, expanding access to critical mental health support for students and families. If a family is referred for assistance to meet basic needs, Catholic Charities Information and Referral Caseworkers offer comprehensive services to be sure that all clients’ needs are met and with the goal of self-sufficiency.

Various achievement awards have been given to the agency and individual therapists. These include awards from Mental Health America, the Fred Funan Award of Distinction in 2017, and the Pennsylvania Counseling Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Through our services, healthier communities, better access to mental health care, and a better understanding of mental health can be achieved for both youth and adults.
