South Hills Interfaith Movement

About this Organization

SHIM is one of the only comprehensive organizations meeting needs of South Hills residents in the area. Thanks to strong partnerships with Allegheny County Department of Human Services, the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and local congregations, SHIM is a hub for families facing crisis. By providing essential services in an accessible way to a diverse population, SHIM is vital to the social service safety net in the region. SHIM serves low-income suburban families, including refugee families from around the world. We have program sites in Bethel Park, Baldwin, West Mifflin and in Whitehall. Our work centers on meeting basic needs, achieving self-sufficiency, and building community. Since its founding, SHIM has strived to empower people of all races, faiths, and life experiences. SHIM's core values are equity and inclusion, addressing needs holistically, prioritizing people, building community, and partnering for power. As the South Hills has diversified, SHIM has been a strong advocate for diverse voices, promoting equity and inclusion among residents. Our programs serve more than 8,500 individuals each year.
