Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity

About this Organization

Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. CWHFH doesn't give away homes. We partner with families to build or rehabilitate a home. The family helps throughout the process, and they eventually buy the home from Habitat.

Families apply for our program and are selected based on their need for adequate housing, ability to repay a mortgage and their willingness to partner with Habitat.  Once a family is selected for a home they help in the construction by volunteering "sweat equity" hours. Throughout the construction we rely as much as possible on volunteer labor and donated building materials. When the construction is finished and the family completes their sweat equity, we are ready to sell the home.

CWHFH sells all of its homes at Fair Market Value, at very low or sometime zero-percent mortgages financed by CWHFH, depending on the family's financial circumstances.

Our goal is decent and affordable housing. All of our partner families have an affordable monthly payment on a mortgage that they can manage for a home that they own.
