GTECH (Growth Through Energy + Community Health) Strategies

A nonprofit organization

GTECH works with people to transition land use liabilities into community assets and improve the economic, social and environmental health of our communities. Our vision is to help Pittsburgh become the most innovative and effective model for addressing vacant land in the country. We are a diverse team of policy and planning experts, designers, community organizers, educators, environmental scientists, landscape architects and project implementers.

Our strategic goal over the next three years is to distribute capacity to vulnerable communities to transition land use liabilities into community assets. We are passionate about utilizing vacant land as a platform for inclusive and comprehensive community development. GTECH has developed a methodology in making sure that our solutions and programming are vetted and effective. Our four-pronged approach, investigate, act, connect and sustain, is based on our experience in planning, community engagement and on-the-ground implementation.

The process of reclaiming vacant land remains a critical regional issue and is a core area of focus for GTECH Strategies. GTECH has grown into a nationally recognized, high-impact social enterprise working at the intersection of community development and the green economy to transform blighted, vacant land into neighborhood assets. Our ReClaim program targets vacant land as a platform for community development. We partner with communities to assess, plan and implement green strategies on vacant land while working towards a sustainable, long-term, and productive reuse for each site. The ReClaim team works with residents and community-based organizations on policy research and recommendations, design and community planning, community outreach and engagement, education and training, and on-the-ground implementation.
