MA's Pantry

A nonprofit organization

MA's Pantry is dedicated to assisting individuals and families by supplementing their supply of food and other incidental items. The Pantry emphasizes nutrition, fresh fruits and vegetables, and assistance in using the food supplies available. MA's Pantry offers assistance accessing other social services, clothing, toys, reading materials for children and adults, and kitchen appliances as available.

MA's Pantry was founded in 1983 by an ecumenical group of five religious congregations in response to the widespread need in the Mon Valley to assist the families of persons who became unemployed in large numbers as a result of the collapse of heavy industry locally. This makes MA's Pantry one of the oldest food and nutrition supplement organizations in Allegheny County. It serves residents of North Versailles and East McKeesport. Of its recipients, 1/3 are children, 1/4 are elderly and 1/4 are disabled. Half of all food distribution is by home delivery to the homebound and handicapped. The Pantry is operated entirely by volunteers, a number of whom are also recipients. The Pantry is affiliated with the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania (Agency # 1978), is a member of The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and is sponsored by the Hilltop Ministerium of North Versailles.
