Project Destiny, Inc., founded in 2004 by Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Gregg, serves at-risk youth and families in Northside Pittsburgh's predominantly African American communities. This area, comprising 18 neighborhoods, faces significant challenges related to poverty and violence.
Since its founding, the organization has expanded to provide comprehensive services for Northside residents from infancy through adulthood. Project Destiny is committed to offering unique, eye-opening experiences that foster growth and resilience among youth of all ages.
Key initiatives include early learning centers that care for children from six weeks old until kindergarten, providing age-appropriate activities that build a foundation for academic success. The organization also runs a seven-week summer camp offering a safe, enriching environment for children during school breaks. Project Destiny's holistic approach addresses the diverse needs of the Northside community, creating pathways to success for generations of residents who face systemic challenges.
"Parker is a ten (10) year old boy who struggles with ADHD and high-functioning ASD. He enrolled in Camp Destiny for the summer, despite having an awful time at another camp the previous year. The Camp Counselors and Camp Director worked with him with him to overcome his anxiety and get him out of his shell. He told his parents he only wanted to do one-week of camp because he had anxiety about it. He ended up attending for the whole summer without anxiety medication and has even told the staff he wants to be a Counselor when he's old enough."
