Tree of Life Open Bible Church serves children and families in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood by addressing both immediate needs and long-term community development. Every Sunday morning, children receive a free, nutritious breakfast before participating in Sunday School, ensuring that every child begins the day with a full stomach, a safe environment, and caring adults who know them by name. For many families, this meal provides an important source of nutrition and stability while reducing barriers to participation.
Beyond meeting physical needs, our Children's Ministry and Worship Department intentionally invest in the next generation through leadership development and volunteer training. Children and teenagers are encouraged to discover their gifts while serving alongside experienced mentors in age-appropriate ministry roles. They learn responsibility, teamwork, communication, hospitality, technology, music, and servant leadership. These are skills that prepare them not only for future ministry but also for school, employment, and life.
Young volunteers assist with preparing and serving breakfast, greeting families, helping younger children, participating in worship, operating media and sound equipment, and serving in other supervised ministry roles. Through these experiences, they develop confidence, accountability, compassion, and a heart for serving others. Many of our adult ministry leaders first began serving as children in similar environments, demonstrating the lasting impact of early volunteer opportunities.
Our ministry also provides a safe, welcoming community where children can build healthy relationships with trusted adults and positive peer role models. Families know they have a place where they are welcomed without financial barriers, where children are cared for, encouraged, and challenged to grow in character, integrity, and service.
Funds raised through the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert will help provide breakfast supplies, kitchen and food service materials, children's ministry resources, worship and volunteer training materials, and other essential program expenses that allow us to continue serving local children and families every week.
By investing in Tree of Life's children's and worship ministries, donors are helping ensure that children have their immediate nutritional needs met while also developing the character, practical skills, and supportive relationships that help them thrive for years to come. Together, we are nourishing bodies, building confidence, strengthening families, and preparing young people to become compassionate, responsible leaders in our community.
