St. Margaret Memorial Hospital Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The Reason St. Margaret Foundation Exists: When you're sick, fear of the unknown is debilitating enough without worrying if you have a ride to life saving chemotherapy or treatment, or if you can pay for expensive medicine, home oxygen, hearing aids, walkers, insulin, and other items that aren't covered by insurance or Medicare. You fill in these heartbreaking gaps of suffering with hope, healing and independence for our patients so they can go back to living their lives, not the crisis.

The mission of St. Margaret Foundation is to be a valued source of support for UPMC St. Margaret and the health and wellness of the communities it serves. While we support UPMC St. Margaret patients and families, we do not pay hospital bills or doctors' copayments to UPMC. St. Margaret Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization and public charity, independent of UPMC.

We focus on three key areas:
- PATIENT INDEPENDENCE: Providing what's necessary to give seniors the freedom of living in their home as opposed to a nursing home. Examples: stair glide, ramp from driveway over steps into the home, a bag of food upon Hospital discharge, transportation to the grocery store and other community staples.

- PATIENT ACCESS: Ensuring patients have access/transportation to healthcare so they continue to get the care they need. Examples: four Free Rides Shuttles and other transportation to the hospital, doctors' office, pharmacy.
- PATIENT EXPERIENCE: Helping patients heal, stay healthy and remain independent by providing what falls through the gaps of managed care. Examples: medicine, walkers and medical devices not covered by insurance, and more.

Testimonials

Jonathan lives alone and does not drive. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and needed radiation five days a week for 20 visits. His family lived out of town, and he didn't have anyone to take him to the hospital or doctor's office for his treatment. A St. Margaret Foundation donor funded Free Rides Shuttle takes Jonathan to and from his treatments.

Maureen came to St. Margaret with a fracture in her spine and various other medical issues. She required intravenous antibiotics and intense rehab that kept her in and out of the hospital for months. She was also in and out of a skilled nursing facility. Even after all of her therapy and time at facilities, she had not gained enough strength
