Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh

A nonprofit organization

The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh's mission is to advance the choral art, present compelling and skillful performances at the highest artistic level, serve as an inspiring community resources, and foster participation, appreciation, creation, and enjoyment of choral music in present and future generations.

Through its collaborations with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO), its self-produced concerts, and the Junior Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the Mendelssohn Choir (MCP) provides the greater Pittsburgh region with:

• A high quality, largely volunteer symphonic chorus that provides musical experiences of the highest order;
• A powerful artistic vehicle enabling amateur singers across the region to cultivate the virtuosity required to perform on-stage with world-class musicians, as well as a vehicle for developing choral leadership witnessed by the many community, church, and academic choral directors and professional singers who have honed their craft through their participation with MCP as a singer or assistant conductor;
• A mix of traditional and innovative choral performances designed to intrigue current audiences and attract new ones, thereby, maintaining the vitality and relevance of the choral art;
• A professional-level choral instruction and performance program, the Junior Mendelssohn Choir, that fills a critical gap in local secondary musical education by giving talented youth the opportunity to develop vocally as individual and ensemble singers, to learn challenging repertoire not taught in schools, and to develop a lifelong passion for music whether as a performer or audience member.

MCP's 2016-2017 season includes:
"Defying Gravity Concert," with Steven Hackman, Aug. 7, Oglebay Resort, WVA
"The Music of Downton Abbey," Oct. 8, East Liberty Presbyterian Church
