Fundraiser Story

The Counselor in Training (CIT) Program at Camp Kon O Kwee Spencer is a four week leadership development experience for high school students entering 11th grade. Teens spend their first week in intensive training—learning teamwork, camp traditions, and safety protocols—before shadowing experienced counselors for the next three weeks as they help lead and support a cabin group. The program equips teens with skills in leadership, responsibility, and youth development that prepare them for future employment at camp and beyond. It also strengthens our staff pipeline and reinforces the high safety and care standards families expect from the YMCA. The full program costs $2,299 per participant and covers training, mentorship, and recreational opportunities, but many students who are interested in this program unfortunately cannot afford the full price.

About the Organization

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That's why, at the Y, strengthening the community is our cause.
