The Thelma Lovette YMCA holds a deep personal significance for me because of the vital role it plays in uplifting underserved and historically marginalized communities in Pittsburgh. Located in the heart of the Hill District, this YMCA is more than a gym—it is a beacon of hope, wellness, and opportunity. From providing swim lessons to children who might otherwise never learn this life-saving skill, to offering afterschool programs that close learning gaps in math and reading, the Y helps families build stronger, healthier futures. What moves me most is seeing firsthand how the Thelma Lovette YMCA empowers individuals—from seniors finding community in wellness classes, to returning citizens gaining stability through housing support. Every day, we help people overcome barriers with dignity, compassion, and care. Supporting this YMCA means investing in equity, education, and wellness for all—and that’s a mission I believe in deeply.
