My YMCA Story — By Christian DePolo Youth & Family Director, Baierl Family YMCA The YMCA has always been more than just a place—it’s been my home. I grew up going to the Y. I was the kid at summer camp making lifelong friends, the one in youth sports learning confidence and teamwork, and the face in enrichment programs finding joy in a safe, welcoming space. No matter what stage of life I was in, the YMCA was there for me. The people I met and the mentors who guided me made a lasting impact—they made me feel like I belonged. Their generosity and care inspired me to give back. That’s why I’ve dedicated the past five years of my career to the YMCA, and why I’m now proud to serve as the Youth and Family Director at the Baierl Family YMCA. The Greater Pittsburgh YMCA uplifts thousands of families and individuals just like me—people who need a place to belong, to grow, and to be supported.
