The Human Services Center Mon Valley improves the quality of life for children, adults, and families in the Mon Valley area. It fulfills this mission in four ways: Serving as a collaborative leader by promoting and supporting a network of providers within and outside the walls of its multi-purpose center. Serving as a bridge between human service organizations and those who develop policies and funding that impact the quality of life in the Mon Valley area.
In addition to housing eleven tenant agencies, the HSCMV’s primary areas of service are the:
- Youth Learning In a Fun Environment After-School Program which serves 80 first through fifth graders daily from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a comprehensive after-school program.
- Kids Outgoing, Outdoing, and Learning Summer Program which serves 80 first through fifth graders for seven weeks in the summer for seven hours each day.
- Emerging Leaders Program, a workforce and college readiness initiative, serving 155 high school seniors in the East Allegheny, McKeesport Area, Penn Hills, West Mifflin Area, and Woodland Hills School Districts.
- Mon Valley Providers Council which assists thousands of people annually in coordination of services among the 70+ dues paying nonprofit member agencies who work together to address gaps in services in employment and training, health, and housing.
- Supports for Success provides intensive case management services to at least 24 low-income adults annually.
- Community Outreach Services are the dozens of additional services that come to the HSCMV (or are offered by the HSCMV) to provide supplemental services in addition to the HSCMV’s tenant agencies. This includes the HSCMV’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program which helped over 700 taxpayers this year receive over $1,000,000 in returns and credits to the lowest income people in the community. Additionally, we conduct financial literacy seminars that assisted nearly 500 people in 2025. We also support a food pantry for the 150+ lowest income families in the region.
